I live in a small space (roughly 1200sf of space with my child and spouse) and we each have stuff. I think I do a rather great job in managing all of our stuff, but we are definitely not short stopping when it comes to clothes, shoes and accessories. I would also venture to add that we (my husband and I) are rather savvy shoppers. I consider both of us as “professional” shoppers. We both love to find amazing items of high quality construction at amazing prices. I mean we seldom buy full price and the off-occasion we do, we do so because we anticipate that if we wait for a particular item to go on sale, chances are it will not be available (or in the size, color, etc.) we need. So hence we accumulate some amazing finds.
Something l need to let you know is that I do not like clutter and work quite diligently in ensuring that clutter is at a major minimum. So how do three people sharing 1200sf of space do so clutter free? Easy. I invest in an external storage unit to store the excess. Then I curate just what I need and will use or wear for a particular season. I have found that this approach always allow us to “shop our storage” and bring in items that seems fresh, new and relevant.
My recommendation and excitement in addressing small space storage, are collecting beautiful objects that can store or hide items in plain sight. I may find amazing baskets or large wooden bowls, vases or vessels to keep things like keys, spare change, cell phone cords, or adapters. I use baskets of various sizes for items like mail, blankets/throws, and outerwear accessories like gloves, hats, and scarves for quick, easy access.
I collected pictures from some of my favorite sites with beautiful baskets. Do note that the majority of these images are from a few seasons ago, so the exact versions may no be available. However, I am posting just for a general idea of what I look for. The baskets featured are from Target, World Market, CB2, West Elm, H & M Home, and Zara Home.
