As we find ourselves well into the year, already closing out March and preparing ourselves for April, I often feel a renewed sense of excitement moving into the spring season. The season that births new beginnings, fresh ideas and new opportunities. For me, it is the renewed focus centering a persistent need for self-care, wellness and wholeness. However, what does that really mean? How does that really translate into our everyday lives? What is that balance? What are those elements we identify as self-care?
Recently, I have been pondering this mandate for self care with deep reflection. After all, how can I attend to my family, others or my work, if I am not properly taking care of…well…me? It has taken me a long time to come to terms with this awareness. So much now more than ever (it seems), that it was necessary to add “self care” to my list of must do’s. In fact, this personal need has really allowed me to make myself a priority.
I know it sounds a bit selfish, but it is imperative to be happy, healthy and whole so that I can be the “ALL” I need to be for myself with healthy boundaries established for my family, work and others. Prioritizing myself and really understanding what mindfulness, wellness and wholeness means will be a liberating personal journey…my personal movement…as I learn it, live it and be…it!
So what have I been doing to take care of myself? Here are my top wellness tips:
- Create your quiet space.
- Do deep breathing exercises to center your mind, body and spirit…to cleanse, heal and rejuvenate.
- Drink water and eat clean food.
- Remove yourself from toxic people, environments or energy.
- Talk to a professional to help you work through stress, relationships and challenges.
- Listen to music and inspirational messages that feeds your spirit and nourishes your soul.
- Journal…collect your thoughts on paper.
- Read…a great book, your favorite magazine or inspirational stories.
- Close your eyes and breathe.
- Smile…it’s healing for your heart and mind.
- Take a walk with no particular destination in mind.
- Wear your favorite article of clothing that makes you feel amazing. For me it’s a great pair of jeans and yummy chunky sweater.
- Pamper yourself through beauty. Sometimes just cleansing with an amazing face wash product, wearing your favorite perfume or lipstick is all you need to center the beautiful you!
- Stretch…to release stress and tension.
- Take time to pause and reflect for beauty and peace.
I am hopeful that this message encourages you to prioritize yourself, center your focus and inspires you to unleash the best of you who are – spirit, soul, mind and body.
