There are moments in life that knock the wind right out of you. Moments where you feel like you’ve been unfairly targeted, defeated, or simply failed. It can feel like a punch to the gut, a betrayal of your dedication, intelligence, and proven success.
Suddenly, you might find yourself navigating unfamiliar territory: financial uncertainty, the thought of needing unexpected support, and the crushing weight of stress. The situation might leave you feeling overlooked or undervalued. A part of you might feel deep hurt and anger, and it’s okay to acknowledge those feelings.
This isn’t just a setback; it can be a deeply personal one. The emotional toll of feeling defeated, of grappling with what some call “situational depression,” can be immense. Your energy might plummet, and your physical health might even start to reflect the internal turmoil.
The Choice to Create Momentum
It would be easy to stay in that space of defeat. To let the anger and sadness consume you. But deep down, you might know that’s not your story. You’ve always been a builder, a leader, someone who makes things happen. So, even while hurting, you can make a choice: to push. To navigate. To create momentum in a positive direction.
That momentum might take the form of establishing a new venture, pursuing a long-held passion, or leveraging your expertise in a completely new way. It’s about finding a space where you can apply your decades of experience, all the knowledge and skills you used to make others successful, and apply them on your own terms. Even when you’re just starting to see small successes, it’s a testament that even in the darkest times, your expertise and value remain.
Are You Feeling Stuck?
Perhaps this resonates with you. Maybe you’ve faced a significant professional or personal challenge, or just feel a pervasive sense of being “stuck.” The feeling of being adrift, unsure of your next step, can be paralyzing. Your energy might be zapped, and the idea of “hustling” feels impossible.
If you’re in that place, please know this: you are not alone, and your feelings are valid. It’s okay to acknowledge the pain, the anger, the disappointment. But it’s also crucial to remember that you possess an inner strength capable of transforming your circumstances.
Finding Your Way Forward: A Starting Point

Here are some initial steps to consider, which can offer direction, support, and encouragement:
- Acknowledge Your Pain, Then Pivot to Action: Allow yourself to feel the emotions, but don’t let them define your future. Once you’ve processed, even a little, start asking: “What’s one small step I can take today?”
- Reclaim Your Narrative: Someone else’s decision or a challenging situation doesn’t define your worth or your capabilities. Remind yourself of your successes, your talents, and your unique value. Write them down if you need to!
- Prioritize Your Well-being (Even Small Steps): When energy is low, even minor self-care feels monumental. This could be about recognizing the need to address your physical health and mental space. Whether it’s a short walk, a healthy meal, or simply dedicating time for quiet reflection, these actions build resilience.
- Leverage Your Expertise Differently: You have skills, knowledge, and experience that are valuable. How can you repackage them? Can you consult, teach, write, or start something new that utilizes what you already know?
- Seek Support: This journey is not meant to be traveled in isolation. Reach out to trusted friends, family, mentors, or even a professional who can offer guidance and a safe space to share.
Your journey might be far from over, and there may still be days where the weight of it all feels heavy. However, the act of building…of pushing forward…of creating something new from the ashes of a painful experience, is incredibly empowering. If you’re feeling stuck, remember your inherent worth and the power you hold to redirect your own path.
What’s one small area of momentum you can create for yourself today?
Be inspired. Be empowered. Be fabulous!
