I feel an incredible invigorating optimism during the fall season. This time of year just brings a new focus…a new vibe. To be quite honest, I am not a hot weather person…summer is such a challenging season for me. Especially during this phase of my life – between the hot temperatures and [frankly] the ongoing throes of menopause with hot flashes, the summer season’s heat [and double heat] is simply miserable.
That’s why fall has always been my absolute favorite season. I absolutely love this time of year—I adore the cooler, crisp weather, the stunning change of nature’s colors, and the simple joy of layering and wearing more clothes! The shift in temperature and scenery always feels like a personal reset, inspiring me to look forward with fresh energy and focus. So here is what I am pulling from my closet as I enthusiastically embrace fall:
1. The Essential White Boot
The white boot is a must-have, an essential addition to any shoe collection, and it can truly elevate any outfit. It brings a surprisingly chic element to a fall look.
I’m currently rotating between a buttery soft, white leather “sock boot” and a sharp, white pointed-toe boot with a low heel. I find that I love the color of a white boot in the fall more than a white shoe in the summer—it just gives a fantastic vibe as you pair different colors together. Here are a few tips in styling the white boot for a look that just works:
- Top: An oversized navy blue sweater (cashmere knit for ultimate comfort and luxury).
- Jeans: A pair of washed-out black or gray jeans—be it cropped, barrel-cut, or a full-length wide-leg denim.
- Boots: The white boots tie it all together.
- Outerwear: A cropped trench coat or a sleeveless wrap coat in navy blue.
- Accessory: Finish it off with a large, fantastic black leather handbag.
There’s something about this color pairing—white, navy, and washed black—that creates a look that is effortlessly elevated.
2. Another Option for the White Boot are Silver Boots
Silver boots are a favorite of mine for this transitional season. Silver worn with caramel-colored denim or even an animal print jean looks incredible. Pair them with a khaki or chocolate brown top. Silver is less harsh than a black or brown boot and provides that lightness you might not be ready to give up from summer.
3. Comfortable, Chic Micro Heels
Speaking of shoes, I’m currently embracing lower heels (not my 4″ platforms of the past!), now preferring a height of typically 1 to 2 inches. I simply love the look of a great low-heeled shoe—like brogues, certain boots, or clogs. This height offers polish and style, allowing me to be comfortable and elevated as my body and style preferences have evolved.
4. Cozy Knitwear
My knitwear is the foundation of my fall dressing. My staples are simple, highly curated, and typically in cashmere knit:
- Turtlenecks and crewnecks in black, navy blue, and gray.
- I also keep an eye out for the perfect burgundy sweater—a color that happens to be right on trend this season along with chocolate browns.
5. The Ultimate Accessory: Coats and Jackets
I consider my coats and jackets my ultimate accessories. I love having a variety!
- Wool Coats: Classic herringbone or soft cashmere coats in black, navy blue, or taupe.
- Sleeveless Coats: A real game-changer for the transitional season. They allow you to layer your chunky sweater and jeans without adding extra weight or bulk to your arms. It’s a sleek, chic, and incredibly comfortable fall vibe.
Final Touches: Jewelry, Scent & Handbags

When it comes to completing the outfit for a total look, I do not feel complete without my favorite silver jewelry (earrings, rings and occasional bracelet), scent (at the moment I am wearing Nomad by Chloe`), and a handbag. I particularly prefer the tote bag because I needs space for my appointment diary, makeup, and most importantly, my fans. My hot flashes demand them!
My preferred options are large totes, typically in black leather, but I also love my leather bags in gray, caramel, and white. This season, I’m especially excited to pull out my cozy, furry tote bags.
The Power of Curation
I have a lot of clothes, but my focus is on highly curated pieces that work well together in multiple ways. This means that even if it takes me 20 to 30 minutes to nail the perfect outfit, I’m never staring at my closet wishing I had something else.
For example, I can take those animal-print, wide-leg denim, pair them with a boxy, navy blue crewneck sweater, add my silver kitten heel boots, throw on a navy blue sleeveless wrap coat, and finish it with a chocolate brown leather tote. Add some silver jewelry and a favorite scent, and I’m out the door.
