The Art of Becoming: Honoring Dorothy Swope

I cannot speak about this special day, inspiration, or remembrance without honoring my own mother, Dorothy Swope, who passed away on May 5, 2025. She was a true creative—an educator, entrepreneur, and artist at heart who found her greatest joy in encouraging others and developing people in their process of becoming. Her influence was the master artist that gave our grandest ideas their structure.
If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t be doing what I am today. My sister and I were profoundly blessed to have her with us as we launched her foundation, the Dorothy A. Swope Foundation, two years ago—a dream she long held. She was able to witness the planning and see the first round of tuition scholarships awarded (at the time) to students, ensuring her impact as an educator continues. Now her work continues through the foundation funding impactful projects that aligns with the mission “…to [invest]…in the lives of learners that further the life-changing potential of education.”

While the absence of her physical presence is heavy, I find peace in knowing she is ever present with us in legacy and beauty.
Today, I choose to remember her in stillness and in impact.
Celebrating the Pivot: Join Cohort 2026
Over the last year, I have watched this community undergo a profound transformation. The women in our Cohort 2025 represented the women who refuse to be defined by a single chapter and redefined success on their own terms. So here’s my message to you…
- The 50+ Visionaries: You are proving that desire has no expiration date. I see you launching businesses, excelling in what you are aspiring to do, and demanding new directions with a grace that only experience can provide. Your wisdom is our Collective’s greatest asset.
- The Under 50 Trailblazers: You are the risk-takers, the brave, and the bridge-builders. By gleaning inspiration from the generations before you, you are shifting our society in ways that are both productive and powerful.
- The Architects of the Future: To the aunts, sisters, and maternal mentors guiding young girls—you are teaching them that “womanhood” is a spectrum of strength and creativity.
This pivot is changing the narrative of what we are capable of at any age. Join The Collective Community.
The Denim Edit: The Archetype of Style & The Collaborative Session
Style is both the aesthetics and a tool for empowerment. In a world that is constantly shifting, a great pair of denim is the anchor. However, finding “the one” requires a mix of high-street accessibility and designer precision. A wardrobe should be a reflection of your “becoming,” and I am passionate about helping you identify the “hero pieces” that make getting dressed an act of joy.
The 2026 Curated Denim Shortlist:
- FC|C Denim Atelier: Our heart and soul. We specialize in curating rescued, pre-owned, vintage and designer-reworked creations that tell a story before you even put them on.
- Anine Bing: Denim for the minimal, chic edge. Think high waist, wide-leg or classic straight-leg styles.
- Levi’s: The timeless blueprint. When you need durability and a silhouette that ignores trends, you go back to what’s heritage with the modern edge.
- Mother Denim: For those days when comfort is non-negotiable but style is still required. Their stretch and flattering cuts are amazing.
- Zara & H&M: My go-to recommendations for those wanting to experiment with the season’s newest volumes and proportions.
- Uniqlo: The masters of minimalist essentials. High-quality denim that serves as the perfect foundation to your wardrobe.

Mother’s Day Spotlight: Support the My-Indaba Project
To further celebrate the women in our lives, I’m thrilled to share a special promotion from My-Indaba funded by the Dorothy A. Swope Foundation. I am a proud endorser of the My-Indaba Project, which focuses on preserving stories and legacies through digital storytelling—a mission that resonates deeply as we honor the legacies of the women who came before us.
As we move through this season of remembrance and renewal, may we all find the courage to keep ‘becoming.’ Whether you are honoring a legacy or building a new one, know that your journey is the art, and your style is the signature. Here’s to the women who inspire us and the stories that shape us—let’s continue to support one another in style and in spirit. May your Mother’s Day be filled with reflection, peace, and a bold vision for what’s next.
With love, legacy, and style,
Felicia
